Discovering Art at the Gallery Walk--Art Walks and New Academy Focus On Art Education Downtown
When
was the last time you checked out Main Street ? There are seven bona
fide fine art galleries, plus the St. George Art Museum , and the
recently opened St. George Art Academy within a two-and-a-half-block
stretch of Downtown. And that stretch will be alive with art and music
from 6-9:00pm Friday, March 12th for the Spring Gallery Walk, an event
where featured artists, such as Blue Sky Gallery’s Fiona
Phillips, Watercolorist Richard Brown at Impressions Fine Art
Gallery, will be on site demonstrating their artwork, accompanied
by a variety of musicians, including Cedar City’s Blues guitarist
Steven Swift, and even a contest to win a piece of fine artwork.
The
Walk kicks off at the St. George Art Museum , where the current show
“A Portrait of St. George” will be on display, minus the
usual admission fee. At the museum, a punch card can be obtained,
which, if marked at each stop, can be turned in at Twenty-Five Main
Café for the chance to win a piece of original fine artwork in a
drawing at the end of the night. Contestants must be present to win.
Participating galleries include: Authentique Gallery, Impressions Fine
Art Gallery, The Mission Gallery, Twiggs & Moore Gallery, the St.
George Art Academy, A Blue Sky Gallery, Wide Angle Photography, and
Main Street Travel and Gallery.
The
2010 St. George Spring Gallery Walk is a free community event designed
to promote interaction on a personal level between the public and fine
art galleries which represent the artists of St. George, and to
highlight the growing visual art community of the city of St. George.
