Rev Your Engines! SkyWest Airlines' Tenth Annual Mini Indy puts Charity on Fast Track
Yes,
it’s better than NASCAR: pit crews, speedsters and
adrenaline-junkies around the world are preparing for SkyWest
Airlines’ tenth annual Mini Indy, sponsored by the City of St.
George and Dixie State College. On Saturday, March 13, nearly 30
go-cart teams will battle it out on the raceway at Dixie State
College’s Encampment Mall. From the greens to the race track,
sponsors compete for a cause – and have contributed nearly $1
million to local charities in Mini Indy’s ten-year history.
“SkyWest
believes in supporting the communities where we live and work, and Mini
Indy brings companies from all over the world to our home town,”
said Chip Childs, SkyWest Airlines President and COO. “In its ten
years, Mini Indy will generate nearly $1 million for scholarship and
local charities.”
Mini Indy begins with a private golf
tournament for sponsors at the renowned greens of Entrada golf course,
set against the red cliffs and lava rock backdrop found only in
Utah’s Dixie. A United Way banquet and pit crew competition
precede the event’s pinnacle: race day.
The race begins
at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 13, on a course encircling Dixie State
College’s Encampment Mall. Here, racers will compete for the
champion trophy in a series of heats throughout the day. Members of the
media are encouraged to attend the race.
Nearly 40 companies
from around the world will participate in Mini Indy and its surrounding
events. On race day, teams will push their go-carts to the limit in
pursuit of Mini Indy fame. Each car, with its high performance
five-horsepower engine, will reach maximum speeds close to 30 miles per
hour.
