Art Around the Corner Brings World-Renowned Sculptures to Historic Downtown St. George
Whether
your taste for art leans toward the abstract, historic, animal, or
human, you should not have to travel far to find a sampling if you live
in St. George. Art Around the Corner will see to that.
Art
Around the Corner, a not-for-profit outdoor arts project featuring
sculptures by nationally renowned artists, will unveil its 2010
collection in historic downtown St. George on Saturday, March 20. Some
of this year’s returning artists include the legendary Grant
Speed and local favorites L’Deane Trueblood, Matt Clark, and
Annette Everett. A number of artists new to the show will also be
represented, including Martha Pettigrew, Joshua Spendlove, and Blair
Buswell.
“All of these artists have loaned their
sculptures to the exhibit for the coming year,” said Kristy Ann
Pike, Art Around the Corner Chair. “Through their generosity, we
are literally able to bedeck the streets of downtown St. George in a
wide variety of very fine art.”
All sculptures are for
sale, and many locals have added to their private collections through
past Art Around the Corner exhibits. The community has also benefited
as sponsors, donors, artists, the City of St. George, and Art Around
the Corner have worked together to expand the collection permanently on
display in the City. Such has been the case with two recently purchased
sculptures: “Night Herdin’ in the Rain” by Grant
Speed, and “Book Peddler” by Jack Morford.
Art
Around the Corner is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to
supporting the arts and enriching the community of St. George. It has
been a major force behind projects like the restoration of the Opera
House and building the St. George Art Museum and Social Hall.
Ongoing Foundation undertakings include the Art Around the Corner
open-air sculpture exhibit and the Partner in the Arts Award.
