Dino Days in Dixie, February 1-6, 2010
This
is the tenth anniversary of the discovery of the tracks at Johnson Farm
and it's going to be a celebration with a bang! Dino Days has a full
program of free fun and events for both kids and adults and want to
encourage the local community to come over and get involved. Events
include the Grand Opening of the "Fossils in Our Backyard" exhibit with
a Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting as well as an honorary plaque
presentation for Darcy and Colleen Stewart for their ongoing support of
the Discovery Site. There will be dinosaur book readings, crafts, a
"Scout Night," displays, and lectures. Saturday, February 6th, is the
Birthday Party for the site and Dil, the Dilophosaurus, and will be a
free admission day with tours and games, treats, and crafts for the
kids.
The prep lab volunteer staff has been working on a new
discovery, a phytosaur (an animal most people would think looks similar
to a long-nosed crocodile) and there will be a kids’ contest to name
it. Fliers are up around town and all children are encouraged to come
up with a name for prizes and recognition. Deadline is February 4th
with the prizes awarded at the big birthday party on Saturday February
6th.
For additional information and the schedule of events, go
to www.dinosite.org, or call 435-668-0970, or 574-3466, ext 1. The
museum is located at 2180 East Riverside Dr. and is open 10:00 am to
6:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.
