SunRiver Golf Pro Earns PGA Membership

Neil Economy, Head Golf Professional for the SunRiver Golf Course, recently earned a Class A PGA membership, a distinction awarded to golf professionals who complete a series of courses, written exams, and simulation tests, and who pass the demanding PGA Playing Ability Test.

Economy was appointed SunRiver’s Head Golf Professional in May of this year, bringing to the position over seven years of experience.  Before that, he worked as a wildlife technician for the BLM, conducting bird surveys and water tank surveys on the Arizona Strip.  He holds an associate’s degree in wildlife science from Dixie State College.

Originally from California, Economy first focused his athletic ability on the game of soccer, earning a spot on the California state team and a 1986 invitation to try out for the U.S. Olympic team.  “I still enjoy soccer,” he said, “but golf, especially golf at SunRiver, is now front and center in my life, second only to my family.”

Economy, his wife and stepson live in Bloomington Hills, having moved there from Rockville five years ago.  His stepson, Josh Harris, 16, is a junior at Desert Hills High School, and his wife, Lorri, is coordinator of the Western Regional Council of Workforce Services for the State of Utah.

Commenting on his membership in the PGA, Economy said, “I’m pleased to be able to bring this degree of professionalism to the SunRiver golfing community.  The SunRiver Golf Course is a public course.  If you love golf and haven’t given it a try, you should.”
