Oktoberfest Celebration – Saturday, October 3rd
New
Promise Lutheran Church will again host the annual Oktoberfest - German
Dinner, a major fundraiser for Dixie Care & Share. This event
is supported by the four Lutheran congregations in St. George and Cedar
City to help raise funds for the St. George shelter and food
bank. The Canyonlands Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
sponsors the event; they will provide matching funds up to
$1200.00. Last year’s dinner was attended by over 300
people from the community and raised $2700, which along with the
Thrivent match, was donated to the shelter.
The dinner will be
held on Saturday, October 3rd from 5 – 8 pm. In an effort
to assure that everyone can be accommodated, there will be three
seating times, on the hours of 5pm, 6pm and 7pm. Traditional
bratwurst, sauerkraut, red cabbage, potato salads and pickled red beets
will be served. There will also be hot dogs and mac-n-cheese (for
the kids - big and little). And of course, German chocolate cake
and German apple cake for dessert.
There will be some
traditional German music and there is a rumor that last year’s
Oompa band will repeat their terrific performance. Also, there
will be some of the handmade quilts given away.
If you unable to
attend the Oktoberfest event and you would like to make a monetary
contribution, please send it to Dixie Care and Share at 131 North 300
West. There is always a need to help those less fortunate in our
community. For more information, call Judy Robbins, Chairperson of
Board for Dixie Care and Share, at 435-229-6019.
