Increased Access to Non-Medical Home Care Makes Home Sweeter for Southern Utah Rural Elderly Disabled
Life can be lonely for the elderly and disabled in highly populated areas of Utah. In rural Utah, the challenges are magnified by geographic isolation and limited services.
Compassionate Companions, LLC., a new St. George home-based business, offers non-medical companionship and home care services to the elderly and disabled in the far reaches of the five county areas of Iron, Washington, Kane, Garfield and Beaver Counties. Compassionate Companions is an independent contracted care provider for Five County Association of Governments.
“We’re reaching out to seniors and others in rural areas that might otherwise be forced into an institutional nursing home,” founder and owner London K. Brown said. “There are so many needed services we can perform at a significantly lower cost than skilled nursing providers. People are happier in their own homes and they appreciate compassionate care in their own environment.”
Brown said she took a hard look at the lack of non-medical services available in rural areas and decided to target those clients with the greatest need for companionship, light housekeeping, transportation to appointments, grocery shopping, letter writing, meal preparation and more. Compassionate Companions also offers respite care to help primary caregivers avoid burnout. Discounts are available for extended respite hours.
“While we gladly provide services in the more populated areas, we are focusing on rural southern Utah because that is where the need is the greatest,” Brown said.
Compassionate Companions offers special rate programs for veterans and their spouses. For more information about home services for the elderly and disabled, contact Brown at 435-256-6228 or visit www.compassionateutah.com.
