Protecting Yourself and Your Passengers from Allergens and Pollution
By Rick & Teressa Miller Preventive Maintenance Experts St. George, UT
With pollution at an all-time high, domestic and foreign vehicle manufacturers have begun including cabin air filters in newer model vehicles to help keep drivers healthy. This filter helps remove dust, pollen, mold spores and other particles from the passenger compartment.
Not only does the cabin air filter maintain clean air throughout the cabin, it also protects the air conditioner and heater from dirt, debris and possible corrosion. To keep your cabin air filter effective, most vehicle manufacturers recommend replacement every 12 months or 15,000 miles.
Under extreme driving conditions, such as city driving, dusty roads or driving in industrial areas, you may consider replacing it more frequently.
Consult your local preventive maintenance specialist or your owner's manual to learn if your vehicle has a cabin air filter. Have it examined regularly to determine if replacement is needed.
