Are You Losing Your Cool?
By Rick & Teressa Miller Preventive Maintenance Experts St. George, UT
Your vehicle’s radiator uses a coolant mixture of antifreeze and water to lubricate the water pump, protect the engine’s internal metal surfaces from rust and corrosion, and maintain proper operating temperatures.
Over time coolant can become acidic eating away the metal it comes in contact with. As coolant ages, it loses its detergent and lubricating qualities allowing contaminants to restrict flow through the engine. This will cause an engine to overheat, the most common cause of engine failure.
Servicing your vehicle’s radiator, according to manufacturers’ recommendations, will aid in proper performance of your engine’s heating and cooling systems. Not only does a radiator service reduce the likelihood of overheating, it will also improve cabin heating and air conditioning performance and increase the longevity of your engine’s cooling system components.
