Success For Kids!
“SUCCESS
FOR KIDS,” a support and empowerment program for children who
have experienced domestic violence, has been added to The Erin Kimball
Memorial Foundation’s H.O.M.E. (Housing, Options, Mentoring and
Empowerment) transformational housing program. Designed to end
the inter-generational patterns of domestic violence, the Success
program assesses the needs of each child, connects them to resources,
teaches skills that promote loving relationships and strengthens the
skills of parents to nurture and protect their children.
“It
is essential for children who have experienced trauma to work through
issues using self-directed play,” explains Angela Hinton, the new
Children’s Advocate. “Whether the kids are playing
basketball, blowing bubbles or role playing we can incorporate the life
skills that I’m teaching. The children come alive when a
safe environment is provided for them to tell their stories and express
who they are and who they want to become. Play, regardless
of age, is a child’s way to work through and express what is
happening in their world.”
H.O.M.E. is the only
transitional housing program for domestic violence victims in southern
Utah, northern Arizona and southern Nevada and provides the long-term
housing and support needed for families to gain the life skills that
leads to a healthy, independent family unit. The Erin Kimball Memorial
Foundation has provided over 103,000 nights of shelter for 103 families
including 286 children since 2002. For more information or to see
