Dixie Applied Technology College Diesel Program Student Needs Your Help!
On February 27, 2009 a group of students from the DXATC Diesel program
competed in Utah State Skills Olympics at SLCC. The members of the
group were Broc Grundy (post secondary division), Coby Robinson
(secondary division/ Snow Canyon), and Cody Wulffenstein (secondary
division / Pineview).
 The
Competition consisted of 12 different skills areas within the diesel
repair industry along with a mock job interview and a knowledge test.
Some of the areas tested were shop skills i.e. drilling, tapping,
welding, and cutting., Engine Diagnosis, Air Conditioning, and
Precision Measuring. Each contestant had 15 min to complete a task and
then they were scored on how well they performed. more points were
awarded for correct procedures than for the speed at witch the job was
done. There was a written portion for each job that was allowed an
additional 15 min. The whole competition lasted approx. 6 hours that
started at 7 A.M. The post secondary students were judged in their own
division separate from the secondary students.
Although all the
DXATC students performed well there was one that stood out. Many of the
station Judges asked "who was that young man in the cowboy hat". It was
Cody Wullfenstein a junior from Pineview High school and a student in
the DXATC Diesel program. Cody pulled out a first place win in the
secondary division which gave him the Gold metal and a box full of
prizes from industry including Snap-On Tools, Wheeler Machinery, and
Lake City International to mention a few. Cody will be representing
Utah and the DXATC in the national competition in Kansas City in the
last week of June 2009. This is a great honor and opportunity for
anyone to be in this position and a special achievement for a Junior in
high school.
Cody needs financial help to attend the competition
in Kansas. It will cost approx. $1000.00 for him to attend. if you
would like to help please contact Damon Atkinson at 435-668-1241 or
email him at atkinson@dixie.edu.
