Eagles in the Sky

Queen size is hardly big enough to hold all the “Eagles in the Sky” that soar across the quilt being raffled off by the Washington County Republican Women to benefit their “Supporting Our Troops” scholarship fund.  Queen-size does describe the hearts of the three talented ladies who put in the hours and efforts it took to create this quilt.

The Washington County Republican Women (WCRW) provide a scholarship each year to Dixie State College for veterans of the US military who have served in the Middle East.  Dixie State College selects the recipients. This raffle is the largest of several fund-raisers which support the scholarship.  Raffle tickets may be obtained from any WCRW member, or by calling Caring for America Chair Wilma Courtney at 435-634-0916.

Wilma Courtney, Colleen Willis and WCRW President Susan Recknagel designed and pieced Eagles in the Sky, which was then quilted by  Linda Brown . The quilt debuted at the February 5, 2009, WCRW meeting, and many members commented that the back, displaying the perfectly stitched eagles and stars pattern on a deep violet-blue background, rivaled the face for beauty, making the quilt truly reversible.  This work will be on display at the Dixie Quilt Guild’s Festival of Fabric Arts coming up at the Dixie Center on April 10 and 11, 2009.
