SouthWest Federal Credit Union has donated $1,390 to the Foundation for Students of Washington County and their efforts to promote and maintain fine arts in area schools.
“The arts enrich our lives in so many ways,” said Muriel Blake, president and CEO of SouthWest Federal, “and we're happy to support these efforts by our local schools”
The check was presented at last month’s Foundation board meeting, and will support their current focus of creating a fine arts endowment.
“Academics in the schools are enhanced when the fine arts are improved,” said Ferron Holt, the school district’s fine arts coordinator. “(We) are augmenting and seeking ways to help keep fine arts in the school district and specifically in the classroom” and the donation from SouthWest Federal Credit Union will help accomplish that goal.
SouthWest Federal’s fundraising efforts are run by an 11-member Community Service Committee of employees, which organizes eight service projects throughout the year and include the efforts of all credit union employees.
SouthWest Federal is the only locally administered and longest serving credit union in Southern Utah. Serving the five-county area of Southwest Utah, plus Mesquite, Nevada and Northwest Arizona, SouthWest Federal Credit Union was established in St. George in 1937.
