CALL TO ACTION

Local St. George, Utah boy, (son of longtime Mayor Karl Brooks), Bart Brooks, Seriously Injured While on a Humanitarian Mission

Brooks founded Global Colors, a non-profit organization on the principle that it would be better to go out and try to make a difference, rather than complain about things that weren't being done.  He has personally led volunteer projects in Cambodia, Peru, Mexico, Ethiopia, Senegal, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, Burma and Mozambique where he has helped to fund school tuitions for children, wheelchairs for invalids and created work opportunities for mothers in tiny villages.

Brooks had been traveling for three months as part of a 52 week quest around the globe to prove that one person can make a difference anywhere the world; calling his project, “Guerrilla Aid”. He was currently in Uganda helping the Batwa Pygmies.  These people are considered a sub-species of humans in their own country, having no rights or voice within the government of Uganda.  Driven off their land, harassed by locals and forced to live in horrid conditions in the tops of the mountains, the Batwa pygmy children were starving when Brooks stepped in to make a difference.  He had built shelters and raised funds for the purchase of chickens so the children could get much needed protein.  As he was completing the 5 /2 hour trip to the nearest village with newly constructed coops to pick up the chickens, his small moped was struck by a SUV.

Seriously injured, he was flown to Rwanda where he has already had 4 surgeries on one leg in an attempt to save it.  A fund has been established a Zions First National Bank for donations to help pay for his medical expenses called the “Bart Brooks Donation” account.  You can learn more about his courageous efforts to make a difference in the world at Globalcolors.org and guerrillaaid.com.
