Milestone Member

This year, the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce is reinstating a tradition - The Milestone Member Recognition Award. This award goes to those outstanding Chamber members that have been a 'member in good standing' for 10 or more years. This week, at the Chamber luncheon, we are recognizing The Red Rock Center for Independence.

The Red Rock Center became a free standing Independent Living Center on January 1, 1998.    It is a great pleasure to identify the needs and upheld the rights of people with disabilities. The prosperity of the last decade has increased the Centers ability to serve the vast 29,000 plus square miles of rural southwestern Utah.  Last year through grass roots philosophy and individual development the Center served 1,048 people. Fourteen people were transitioned out of Nursing Facilities into secure less restrictive settings and forty-two people were diverted from prematurely entering medical facilities. This is a tax savings of over $84,000 per year. Most importantly is the quality of life for 1,048 individuals.
