Spencer Douglas Joins HintonBurdick Cedar City Staff
A growing demand for accounting services in the Cedar City area has prompted HintonBurdick CPAs & Advisors to add a staff accountant to its Cedar City office. Spencer Douglas, a candidate for the Masters of Accountancy degree at Southern Utah University, has been selected to fill that position, according to HintonBurdick managing partner Morris Peacock. Douglas has a B.S. in accounting and expects to receive his Masters in May of 2009. He has previously worked as a staff accountant for Piercy, Bowler, Taylor & Kern in Las Vegas, Nevada, and prior to that, as a tax preparer and planner for a small sole proprietor firm in Blanding, Utah. “My experience has run the gamut from corporate, partnership and high net-worth accounts in Las Vegas to small business accounts in Blanding. The latter provided the opportunity for lots of personal interaction with clients, which I found especially rewarding.” Having grown up on a family farm, Douglas is particularly interested in working with farm S-corps clients who “really appreciate having an accountant who understands what they’re talking about and the special challenges they face.” Douglas notes that his interest in accounting seems to be a family trait. He has three brothers, all of whom are accounting majors. He and his wife, Elizabeth, and their two sons, Preston (4) and Parker (2), recently moved to Cedar City from Hurricane. “Cedar City has always been a special place for us,” he said. “When we lived in Las Vegas, we were always dreaming of the day we could move back.” HintonBurdick CPAs & Advisors is a full-service accounting firm in business for more than 30 years and serving clients in 47 states and some foreign countries. In addition to its office in Cedar City, the company has offices in St. George, Hurricane, and Richfield, Utah, and in Mesquite, Nevada.
