St. George Chamber of Commerce Elects Jones Waldo Attorney

Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough PC, one of Utah’s largest and oldest law firms, congratulates attorney Marianne Sorensen for being elected to the St. George Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

“The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce, being the third largest organization of its type in Utah, is a driving force behind the success of local businesses,” Sorensen said.  “Its members are dynamic, hard-working, loyal and congenial - they have made me feel welcome since the first Chamber meeting I attended. I am very enthused to serve the Chamber membership for the next three years, and to work with fine people who really care about the community. I am confident that we will weather the economic storm and continue to grow thriving and profitable businesses in the area.”

The St. George Area Chamber of Commerce’s elected board of directors determines policies and plans of action aimed at maintaining and developing the community in which businesses and families live. The Chamber looks for board members who have professional experience, knowledge, and exceptional qualifications.

As a shareholder at Jones Waldo and associate managing partner for the firm’s St. George office, Sorensen has expertise in general commercial matters, particularly involving real estate. She advises business clients on privacy, confidentiality and e-commerce issues, as well as the legal aspects of advertising and promotions.

Sorensen is a founding member of the Jones Waldo Women Lawyers Group, the first women’s group of its kind to be formally established within a Utah law firm. Comprising all of Jones Waldo’s women attorneys, the Women Lawyers Group covers a wide range of legal specialties, promoting women in business, and assisting female professionals who may be in need of legal services or advice, by aggressively hosting and participating in a variety of business and community-related events. Ms. Sorensen is a founding member and immediate past president of CREW Utah, a chapter of the international organization Commercial Real Estate Women’s Network.

In addition, Sorensen was voted one of Utah Business Magazine’s top “30 Women to Watch” in 2008, an award that annually spotlights women who have created or developed a new product, reinvented an old product, created fresh and original marketing strategies, or women who are pioneers in their field.  She also serves in leadership positions within the Utah Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

Ms. Sorensen is married to Kendall Sorensen, and they are the parents of three children.
