Local non-profit launches efforts to work towards Vision Dixie Implementation
The organization formed after Envision Utah completed the Vision Dixie public participation process. The founder of Form Tomorrow, Peter Stempel, recognized the need to provide towns with on-the-ground support and resources to take Vision Dixie to the next level: implementation. Mr. Stempel actively served on the Technical Advisory Committee for Vision Dixie, helping bridge various sides of the debate to move the process forward in a fair and productive way. Form Tomorrow has been careful to analyze the type of support that would be most helpful in meeting the Vision Dixie objectives; what might work in one town may not be successful in another. The aim is the same: to develop the momentum created by Envision Utah’s Vision Dixie process into meaningful change at the ground level and ensure that townspeople see their vision and will supported. As Mr. Stempel explained, “Our approach is measured and incremental so that we may build credible successes in places early on, building confidence in our overall efforts as we expand further into the County.” Many towns, despite wanting to take steps to implement better planning principles, do not have the means to do so; Form Tomorrow is an invaluable resource to those towns. The organization has been working closely with the Vision Dixie Implementation Committee and the Five County Association of Governments as well as other local groups to coordinate efforts and ensure that Form Tomorrow’s work is complimentary to existing efforts. Specific planning services that the organization offers include: facilitating public participation process; conducting land use inventories and analysis; build out studies; GIS development and mapping; consultation for general plan updates; and ordinance and code development. Lisa Eccles, president of the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation, said that the Foundation’s investment in Form Tomorrow represents its continued interest in the future of the citizens of Washington County. “We were pleased to provide funding for Envision Utah and the Vision Dixie Project, and now we look forward to seeing the process continue, town-by-town, with the assistance and education that Form Tomorrow can offer,” said Eccles.
