Downtown Friday Night – A Festival on The Square
by Becky Newman, MBA
Sandy Lenois, president of Alliance Business Partners, and event coordinator for the Downtown Business Alliance is excited to present Downtown Friday Night. She says, “Since Thursday Night was such a great success for downtown St. George, we have moved to Friday nights so more can enjoy.” Sandy is coordinating an entertainment line-up that will please guys and gals of any age. Arrive early in order to experience the festivities up close and personal.
Each Friday night will create the right atmosphere for fun. October’s events focus on helping to raise funds and awareness for the Washington County Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Program, as well as have a great time; Downtown Friday Night will be open 6pm-10pm. Each festive night plans weekly entertainment with bands from the Southern Utah Songwriter’s Association. Starting October 3rd experience Red Rock Rails geocaching, great food, fun and music entertainment by Rox Dox! On stage October 10th will be the Oompa Band to kick off Oktoberfest festivities while the Senior Starz will conduct its first time event of the “senior version” of American Idol competition. Contestants 50 years and older are auditioning with vocal performances that will delight all in attendance. The fun doesn’t stop as Desert Heat, Wooden Tantrum and Van Goh bring music merriment to our world on October 17th, 24th, and 31st respectively. Speaking of fun, what would Halloween be like without ghosts and goblins? Dress up in costume to celebrate “spooktacular” happenings October 31st and join in our best costume, pumpkin carving and pie eating contests, or bring the youngsters for a trunk or treat good time.
Encourage the whole family to come for an evening of fun on Friday nights throughout October (and the first three weeks in November) in the Town Square. Entertainment will be set up at the top of the stairs above the grass between the Library and the Washington County School District building making all vendor booths and activities easily accessible while still enjoying the entertainment. In addition, the splash pad area is open for the public and children to enjoy with DJ Daniel under the Clock Tower to get the dancers movin’. While you’re there, enjoy a variety of food stuffs that will please any taste buds from vendors such as: Chuchis Mexican Food & Gyros, Ernestos, Brad’s Fish & Chips, Begay’s Navajo Tacos, Dutch Oven Chicken and Potatoes, South Papusa Cuisine, as well as the regular stand by’s of hamburgers and hot dogs.
