The 3rd C of Trust is Confidence. I'm sure you are already thinking that competence and confidence are very interrelated. That's true. It's very difficult to have one without the other. Anybody will tell you that one of the best ways to get confidence is to "fake it til' you make it."That's great, but it will only get you so far. Here are a few techniques to increase your confidence:
1. Try lowering your vocal tone If you have a naturally high voice, that won't stop you from doing this. As long as you deflect your vocal tone downwards at the end of your sentences, you will come across as more competent. Think about it. When you are emotional and unsure of yourself, your tone tends to reflect upwards, and you are perceived as less confident.
2. Ask more questions You will feel more in-control and confident as you ask questions. In addition, your prospect will perceive you as more confident. Think about the professions you perceive as most confident (although they may not be competent). Doctors, lawyers, investment bankers...if they are good, they ask questions.
